History
Our Beginnings
In 1897, a partnership of 15 women in Scranton, Pennsylvania, planted the seed for a new
hospital dedicated to the people of their community. That seed has grown into Community
Medical Center Healthcare Systemthe leading provider of high-quality healthcare services
in Northeastern Pennsylvania.
Although faces have changed with the decades, our roots have grown deep and sure. Today,
more than 1,500 professionals and support staff continue the legacy of those 15 visionaries.
From the first miraculous months before birth to the twilight years, CMC Healthcare System

About Us
Community Medical Center Healthcare System is a leading provider of quality healthcare
services in Northeastern Pennsylvania. A not-for-profit corporation located in Scranton,
CMC offers a complete continuum of educational, diagnostic, therapeutic and rehabilitative
services and programs.
CMC has the region's only Neonatology Unit. Our Emergency Medicine Department is home to the
Northeast Pennsylvania Trauma Center. CMC provides complete cardiac services, including open
heart surgery.
The partners of the CMC Healthcare System include Mountain View Care Center, a 180-bed long
term care facility; Abington Physical Therapy; and Professional Radiation Oncology Partners.
The Ronald McDonald House of Scranton is located only a block from the hospital.
