National Award for Outstanding Organ Donation Rates from the Gift of Life’s Donor program
Community Medical Center is among 20 area hospitals who received a National Award for Outstanding Organ Donation rates from the Gift of Life’s Donor program. CMC was presented with the Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) Medal of Honor and received special recognition for achieving a 75% rate for three consecutive years. Community Medical Center was honored for its exemplary support of families and ensuring that they have the opportunity to consider donation as an important end of life decision. CMC executive becomes national fellow honor
Kimberly J. Weaver, FACHE, Director, Operations & Strategy, at Community Medical Center in Scranton, has become a fellow of the American College of Healthcare Executives, the national professional society for healthcare leaders.
The group only has 7,500 fellows nationwide. To obtain Fellow status, candidates must pass an exam, meet academic and experiential requirements, earn continuing education credits and demonstrate community involvement.
“Becoming a fellow was important to me because ACHE is the premier professional organization in my field, and I am proud to be recognized by them for achieving this level of development in my career,” Weaver said.
ACHE fellows are up for recertification every three years.

CMC’s Asthma Ski Day receives funding from the Scranton Civic Ballet Company
Scranton Civic Ballet Company presented Community Medical Center with a generous gift in support of the CMC’s Annual Asthma Ski Day 2009. A Dance 4 a Cause was held where 55 dancers participated to raise the funds. The cause was chosen to benefit children with Asthma. Deborah Clark, BSN, CEN, MS, SANE, Forensic Nurse and Nurse Manager of Community Medical Center’s Emergency Department has been chosen by the Emergency Nurses Association (ENA) as a "key contact” in the EN411 Program. Debbie will work with our Federal Congressman and his staff both locally and in Washington, D.C. to convey ENA's legislative and regulatory priorities that affect federal legislation important to emergency nursing.
The Emergency Nurses Association (ENA) is the only professional nursing association dedicated to defining the future of emergency nursing and emergency care through advocacy, expertise, innovation and leadership.

CMC’s Vascular Laboratory is the first “Signature Lab” in Lackawanna County
CMC’s Laboratory recently received a certificate that designates 100% membership participation in the Society of Vascular Ultrasound (SUV). This membership is inclusive of all the technologists and the Medical Director of the Lab. The “Signature certificate” indicates their high level of commitment to the vascular ultrasound profession and to the field of non-invasive vascular technology utilized in the diagnosis and treatment of vascular disease. CMC Vascular Laboratory participated in National DVT Awareness Month
Community Medical Center Vascular Laboratory Department manager and staff gathered recently to “Sock it to DVT” during March, National DVT Awareness Month. CMC helped in the mission of the Coalition to Prevent Deep-Vein Thrombosis which is to reduce the immediate and long-term dangers of DVT and pulmonary embolism, which together comprise one of the nation’s leading causes of death. CMC Blood Drive
Community Medical Center held a blood drive for the American Red Cross on May 14. The
theme was “Take Me Out To The Blood Drive,” with the Scranton/Wilkes Barre Yankees as
the co-sponsors. The blood drive was a huge success resulting in the collection of 47

CMC Vascular Lab Participates in National DVT Awareness Month
Community Medical Center Vascular Laboratory Department manager and staff gathered recently to “Sock it to DVT” during March, National DVT Awareness Month. CMC helped in the mission of the Coalition to Prevent Deep-Vein Thrombosis which is to reduce the immediate and long-term dangers of DVT and pulmonary embolism, which together comprise one of the nation’s leading causes of death. CMC’s Vascular Team designed and personalized socks to showcase what DVT means to them. CMC Diabetes Education Program Merits ADA Recognition
The prestigious American Diabetes Association Education Recognition Certificate for a quality diabetes self-management education program was recently awarded to the Center for Diabetes Management at Community Medical Center. ADA believes that CMC’s program offers high-quality education that is an essential component of effective diabetes treatment. The Association’s Education Recognition Certificate assures that educational programs meet the National Standards for Diabetes Self-Management Education Programs. CMC: An Accredited Vascular Laboratory
Community Medical Center’s Vascular Laboratory attained recognition for its commitment to providing a high level of patient care and quality testing for the diagnosis of vascular disease. The facility achieved accreditation by the Intersocietal Commission for the Accreditation of Vascular Laboratories (ICAVL). CMC is the only Accredited Vascular Laboratory in the area for Abdominal Aortic Screening. CMC Administration and staff gathered to recognizes CMC vascular team’s achievement.
