Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy (also known as HBO)
CMC has new state of the art equipment available for wound treatments with Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy also known as HBO. It is an advanced type of care for chronic wounds and vascular (blood vessels) disease.
Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy (HBO), which is a non-invasive procedure where the patient breathes 100 percent oxygen while fully enclosed in a specially designed chamber at increased atmospheric pressure. HBO is used to promote and support healing in the management of conditions in which oxygen transport to the tissues has been disrupted by traumatic injury, infection, inflammation, or edema. This oxygen-rich environment allows the body’s natural wound-healing mechanisms to function more effectively, dramatically speeding up the healing process of chronic wounds.
The New Chambers includes a 4th generation computer based operating systems with controls and records chamber activity and a patient friendly pressurization alternative (Smooth-Ride) that minimizes complications due to middle ear and sinus barotraumas without increasing compression time.
Benefits from HBO therapy:
- A increase in oxygen concentration in all body tissues
- Growth of new blood vessels to locations with decreased circulation
- Treatment of infection
HBO is the treatment of choice for wounds resulting from:
- Vascular disorders
- Diabetes
- Trauma/injury
- Radiation injury to soft tissue and other problem wounds
