The Electrophysiology Lab

CMC has the leading electrophysiology lab in Northeast Pennsylvania with a staff that is wholly dedicated to helping people with irregular heartbeats.
An Electrophysiology study is a minimally invasive procedure performed at CMC's specially equipped EP lab under the supervision of our team of board-certified electrophysiologists. The purpose is to evaluate arrhythmias under controlled conditions to determine the most effective way to treat them.
The EP study involves two main functions: - Record electrical signals at various locations in the heart using electrode catheters. This allows CMC's electrophysiologist to measure when and how electrical impulses are occuring. This is a conduction study.
- Pace the heart using electrode catheters to deliver small electrical impulses that induce or bring on abnormal heart rhythms allowing CMC's electrophysiologist to observe the arrhythmia and determine the best course of treatment.
The EP lab also does most of the pacemaker and ICD implants.
